and Department of Economics

  • Winner of the 1998 ILIR Faculty Teaching Excellence Award

On Teaching

"I was really surprised when I won the first-ever ILIR Teaching Excellence Award in 1998. I have a reputation for being a tough teacher, which I probably deserve. But it was gratifying that students nominated me for the award. I have always tried to make my classes relevant to the real world and give students the skills they will need every day. When you teach economics, that can be a challenge. I spend as much time as they need to learn the concepts important to real world activities."
