Professor Joshi conducts research on work team diversity, gender issues at work, leadership and collaboration in global and distributed teams, generational issues in the workplace, and international and cross-cultural issues in HR. A major focus of her research has been on identifying the boundary conditions shaping the relationship between team diversity and performance in organizational settings. Drawing on psychological, sociological and economic theories she has aimed at identifying the conditions under which various aspects of diversity can have beneficial effects on organizational performance as well as on an individual’s employment outcomes. A second stream of research conducted by Professor Joshi examines factors influencing collaboration and conflict in global teams and the role that leaders play in facilitating optimal performance outcomes in global and multicultural settings. Her research identifies specific attributes of teams and team leaders that can contribute to performance and trust in this context. More recently, Professor Joshi, along with colleagues at LER, is working on a multi-stage project aimed at understanding generational differences in the workplace and the impact of these differences on the design and implementation of effective HR strategies.
