Teaching Philosophy

"I use two basic methods. In courses such as employment law, where an expert body of knowledge must be conveyed, I like the ‘sage from the stage’ approach. Even though this involves a traditional lecture format, I assign case materials rather than texts. Why? This enables students to learn how to analyze case materials for themselves. Other courses, such as collective bargaining, benefit from more student interaction. Here I use ‘the guide on the side,’ leading students through a series of bargaining, mediation, and arbitration simulations."
