Program Mission Statement

The system of relationships between people and technology is complex.  Our mission is to assist people in understanding these relationships and by this increased understanding to better enable innovation.

A New Option

The SocioTechnical Systems Program (STSP) gives you access to better solutions, increased resources, more opportunities, and added value for your company or career. The College of Engineering (COE) and the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations (ILIR) combine forces to offer the STS program option.  This option teams students from across programs, merging their skill sets to create multidisciplinary solutions to real life problems.

Students

Students who take the STS theory course (based on the principle that social and technical systems interact in every workplace) may then apply for the fieldwork experience.  The course and fieldwork are two units each.  Students may apply for additional units through independent study.

Faculty

The STS Program needs faculty members to offer input, expertise and guidance to every student team during their fieldwork experience.

Company Sponsors

Sponsor support provides crucial resources for students in each company and underwrites the STS Program.  Their support also ensures the participation of faculty members to guide student teams as they produce deliverables.  Additionally, companies will have access to highly qualified students who may be their future interns or full-time employees.
