Betty Barrett is Director of the SocioTechnical Systems Program housed in the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations at the University of Illinois. She is a clinical assistant professor and holds a joint appointment in Industrial Enterprise and Systems Engineering. She is co-author of Knowledge-Driven Work (Oxford University Press, 1998) and other articles. Her current work is in support of the STS program classes, project teams, and blog.  Her research interests include work and work organization, organizational systems, and how sociotechnical systems can enable innovation.  Before coming to the University of Illinois, Betty worked as a research scientist at MIT and in the School of Labor and Industrial Relations at Michigan State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management from MSU, an MLIR and a BA in Secondary Education also from MSU.

Cindy King is the Assistant to the Director of the SocioTechnical Systems Program housed in the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations at the University of Illinois. She is responsible for managing the program office, designing promotional materials, and assistanting the student project teams. Before joining the STS Program, Cindy worked at ILIR for the Career Services Office, the Center for HR Management, and in Alumni Relations and Development. She has been at the University of Illinois since 1997. She holds a B.A. in Speech Communications from Olivet Nazarene University.
